Dolly Rebecca Parton

Dolly Rebecca Parton was born on the 19th of January, 1946 in Pittman Center, Tennessee and raised in Sevierville, Tennessee to Avie Lee Parton, a housewife and Robert Lee Parton, a tobacco farmer. At 12, she was appearing on Knoxville TV and at 13, she was already recording for an obscure label and performing on the Grand Ole Opry. She moved to Nashville in 1964 to begin her country music career after graduating from high school. She became a fan of Carl Dean, who ran an asphalt-paving firm. They married on May 30 in 1966, and remain together. Porter Wagoner saw her singing and invited her to appear on The Porter Wagoner Show (1961). She stayed with the show for seven years. Their duets went viral, and she appeared with his group on the Grand Ole Opry; she also performed on tour and sold records. When her smash hit "Joshua" was ranked #1 in the year 1970, her fame had overshadowed his, and she branched out on her own, even though she recorded duets with him.
