Steve Aoki
Steve Aoki was created in Miami, Florida
on the 30th November 1977. American electro-house musician, record producer,
D.J. and music executive. He is the third of Chizuru and Rocky Aoki's kids. His
father was a former wrestler, and was also instrumental in helping to develop
the chain of restaurants Benihana. He has two older siblings who are sisters
Kana, who is often called Grace because of her middle name Grace, as well as
brother Kevin (owner of Doraku Sushi). Half-sister Devon Aoki is a model and actress.
The family was raised in Newport Beach, California and graduated from Newport
Harbor High School, where he was part of the badminton varsity team. After
having graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a Bachelor of Arts degree, He
attended UC Santa Barbara. He earned two degrees: one in sociology and one in
feminist studies. He was a college student who created records by himself and
staged underground performances in his Biko space in the Santa Barbara Student
Housing Cooperative. The Pickle Patch was born as a venue for concerts. He also
was active in student activism at UCSB by being the founder of an Revolutionary
Anti-Imperialist League chapter on campus. By his early 20s, he had built his
own record label, that was called Dim Mak, a reference to the idol of his youth
Bruce Lee. He released I'm in the House in March 2010 as a collaboration with
the Zuper Blahq, the alter-ego of will.i.am from The Black Eyed Peas. The track
charted at No. 29 in the U.K. Singles Chart in its first week of release. It reached
the top 5 on both the U.K. Indie Chart & U.K. Dance Chart. The song was
featured on an episode of MTV's Jersey Shore as well as in the feature film
Piranha and the trailer for Think Like A Man. Interviews with HitQuarters in
May 2010 with Lucas Secon revealed that Rivers Cuomo and he had just worked on
a single. He was named the top-grossing American dance artist by Pollstar in
2012. He has collaborated w/ artists such as Iggy Azalea, Afrojack, LMFAO,
Linkin Park, Will.i.am, Lil Jon, Blink-182, Laidback Luke, BTS, Louis
Tomlinson, Rise Against, Vini Vici & Fall Out Boy. He is famous for
remixing artists such as Kid Cudi.
